Dartmouth Faculty Profile

Trica Keaton, PhD is the Evans Family Distinguished Professor at Dartmouth College in the Department of African and African American Studies, with faculty affiliations in Sociology and Film & Media Studies. An interdisciplinary social scientist, her research and teaching examine evidence-based responses to enduring societal questions. Her work analyzes what it has meant to be racialized-as-black in the United States, France, Europe, and beyond, with attention to both the consequences of racialization and the ways individuals and communities have resisted—and refused—those consequences.

Across her career, Keaton has organized conferences, symposia, film screenings, and public events in France and at universities where she has served as faculty and a visiting scholar, contributing to the growth of Black French and European studies within U.S. academia. These experiences inform her teaching, including her Afro/Black Paris study-away program, which offers students an immersive exploration of the African diaspora in Paris and other regions of France.
